Alberta Solar One Project

Alberta Solar One

Alberta Solar One (ABS1) is a 13.7 MWDC project developed by Morgan Solar in Burdett, Alberta and the first utility-scale demonstration of our SimbaX cell Si-PV performance-enhancing technology.  The project is made up of approximately 36,500 SimbaX enhanced bifacial panels manufactured by PV manufacturer Silfab Solar.

The project is also a validation of our approach to commercializing novel technologies that combine Morgan Solar’s optical modelling capabilities, deep understandings of solar module and solar farm project design, and rapid product development with well-established supply chain partners like Silfab using only proven materials and industry standard manufacturing processes.  The result is innovation that is low capex, bankable, and immediately scaleable.

ABS1 was sold to Enbridge Inc. in June 2020, construction started later that year and the project has been fully operational since March 2021. ABS1 will supply the energy equivalent to that of about 1,850 homes, offsetting about 13,300 tonnes of carbon annually. This project was made possible by financial support from Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) and Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC). For more information about ABS1, please visit Enbridge.
