Mike Andrade, CEO

Mike Andrade joined Morgan Solar as CEO in June 2016. With almost 30 years of experience in the technology industry, Mike has worked closely with dozens of the best-known technology firms as they launched hundreds of products into some of the most competitive industries in the world. Mike has started and grown multiple businesses in his time with Celestica Inc, and created innovative commercialization processes with his firm, T-innovation Partners.

Mike previously held several high-ranking positions at Celestica, which he joined as part of the founding management team from IBM in 1994. His extensive experience in sales, engineering, finance, operations management, mergers and acquisitions, and commodity management will help augment our strong team as we scale our company.  Mike is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree from the University of Western Ontario, and a Master of Business Administration degree from York University.


Asif Ansari, Chief Executive Officer

Asif Ansari, Executive Adviser to the Board and Management

Asif Ansari has been a technical entrepreneur for over 20 years and is a lifelong proponent of solar energy. He has founded dozens of successful companies and led the development and commercialization of over 20 technical products in the cleantech and aerospace markets. As the former CEO of Los Angeles-based eSolar, Asif attracted financial backing from Google and led the design of a mass manufactured, modular, and scalable CSP power plant that singularly brought about a resurgence in concentrating solar thermal technologies. Prior to eSolar, he served as EVP in charge of R&D, Engineering and Manufacturing at Energy Innovations, where he led the development of a versatile Fresnel lens-based CPV system.

Asif holds a BEME from NED University of Engineering & Technology in Karachi, Pakistan, and an MSME from the University of Minnesota.


Eric Morgan, Chairman of the Board

Eric Morgan, EVP Sales & Operations

Eric Morgan is the EVP of Sales and Operations and Chairman of the Board of Morgan Solar. He is also the father of John Paul and Nicolas Morgan and the original angel investor in the company. Eric has provided advice to the company since its founding in 2007, and in early 2012 joined full time, taking on executive responsibility for sales and operations.

Eric brings 38 years of global management experience, including significant experience in the global energy sector. As CEO of Capgemini, Spain, Portugal and Latin America, Eric lead a team of over 5,000 professionals in providing management consulting and IT services to some of the world’s largest companies. Prior to this, Eric was the  Managing Partner for Ernst & Young Consulting Canada, and then CEO of Capgemini Ernst & Young Canada and Mexico.

Eric holds an MBA from the University of Alberta and a degree in Commercial Engineering from the University of Chile.


John Paul Morgan, President & CTOJP

John Paul Morgan founded Morgan Solar in 2007 to develop next generation solar technology and to make solar energy the world’s most accessible and affordable energy source. Now serving as CTO, John Paul leads on product development and commercialization.

John Paul’s previous work includes collaborating on the development of a space telescope with the Canadian Space Agency, inventing and developing high-tech fibre optic technology solutions with telecommunications industry giant, JDS Uniphase, and managing complex logistics and hundreds of staff for international aid projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

John Paul earned a Master’s Degree in Applied Science from the University of Toronto, where he currently holds a position as a member of the Governing Council.


Nicolas Morgan, Vice-President, Business Development and Marketing

Nicolas Morgan, VP Business Development & Marketing

Nicolas Morgan is the co-Founder of Morgan Solar and leads the company’s Business Development and Marketing efforts. Before joining Morgan Solar full-time at the start of 2008, Nicolas spent two years in Spain as a senior manager for FON Technologies, a Web 2.0 start-up. At FON, Nicolas coordinated the activities of business development teams in Europe, North America and Asia. Prior to this, Nicolas worked at Ernst & Young as a risk management and business process advisor to the Ontario electricity sector.

Nicolas holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Anthropology and a post-graduate degree in Applied Information Technology.


Hugo Navarro, Vice-President of Finance & Operations

Hugo Navarro, VP Project Development & Operations

As VP of Project Development & Operations, Hugo is responsible for developing commercial and utility solar projects from conception through to construction, including permitting, securing PPAs, and project financing. He developed the Lancaster National Soccer Center and Morgan Lancaster, and has several projects in progress.

Hugo’s additional responsibilities include Corporate Secretary, non-revenue financing and contracting, and prior to his current role, he was VP of Finance & Operations at Morgan Solar from 2009 to 2011.

Hugo has 12 years’ experience in energy and start-ups, including 3 years as the Middle East & International Oil Markets desk at HM Treasury in the UK, and COO at Campusfood.com. He holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from McGill University and a Master’s Degree in Economics from the New School University in New York.


Philip Chang, Director of Product Development

Philip Chang, VP Engineering & Manufacturing

As Vice President of Engineering and Manufacturing at Morgan Solar, Philip is responsible for overseeing engineering and manufacturing activities for the Savanna™ tracker and plays an active role in product development company wide. Philip is charged with establishing a world class, in-house engineering competency in order to foster and support product development at Morgan Solar.

Philip joined Morgan Solar in 2007 as a Mechanical Engineer to take the breakthrough Light-guide Solar Optic (LSO) from concept to reality. In August 2010, Philip became Director of Product Development, and began building and overseeing a team of engineers and scientists that would engage in the design, optimization, development and manufacture of the Sun Simba™.

In July 2012, Philip became the VP of Engineering and Manufacturing. His primary task since then has been to oversee the commercialization of the Savanna™ tracker, with a primary focus on ensuring its 20 year, maintenance-free operation, and its ease of installation and cost efficiency.

Philip holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Mechatronics Engineering, from the University of Toronto.


Management Team

Brett Barnes, Director of Optical EngineeringBrett Barnes, Director of Module Engineering

Brett Barnes is Morgan Solar’s Director of Module Engineering, overseeing the team which designs and manufactures the company’s breakthrough Sun Simba™ CPV module. Brett’s focus is on streamlining the assembly of the current generation Sun Simba™ platform, and in tandem developing innovative ways to package and assemble Morgan Solar’s optical technologies into next generation CPV modules. Brett also provides leadership and direction for in-house quality control and health and safety systems.

Brett earned a B.A.Sc from the University of Waterloo in 2003 and has since worked around the globe playing a lead role in advancing the design and manufacture of numerous solar technologies, amassing product development experience and generating IP in CPV, advanced Silicon-based, and solar thermal technologies.

Sigmund Lee, Financial Controller

Sigmund Lee is Morgan Solar’s Controller, responsible for the full spectrum of the company’s accounting and financial functions, including tax filing for the company’s Canadian and U.S. divisions. He also leads in developing, implementing and maintaining the company’s financial policies and procedures.

Sigmund draws on over 20 years of financial and operational experience in public and private multinational organizations. He brings extensive experience in management accounting, cost control, financial reporting and project accounting, including overseeing these operations for companies in North America, Europe and Asia.

Sigmund is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified General Accountant, Certified Public Accountant (Ireland), Certified Management Accountant (Australia) and holds a B.Comm in Accountancy from Concordia University, Montreal.


Sebastian Martinez, Business Development Manager

Sebastian Martinez, Director of Sales

Sebastian Martinez is Morgan Solar’s main liaison with prospective clients.

Since joining as Morgan Solar’s first employee in 2007, Sebastian’s interpersonal and management abilities have been instrumental to Morgan Solar’s corporate development.

Sebastian holds a B.Comm in Entrepreneurship from Ryerson University in Toronto.


Dr. Stefan Myrskog, Director of Science

Dr. Stefan Myrskog, Director of Science

Dr. Myrskog holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Toronto, specializing in atomic and optical physics. He has lead Morgan Solar’s Science Team since 2008, overseeing optical design verification, performance modeling, and metrology.

Dr. Myrskog got his start in solar while researching semiconductor nanocrystals and fabricating infrared photodetectors and photovoltaics within the University of Toronto’s Sargent Research Group.

Emma Willemsma, Data Analytics Manager

Emma Willemsma is responsible for developing and implementing the Quality systems that ensure that Morgan Solar’s Sun Simba™ product meets the highest performance standards. Since joining the company in 2010, Emma has become an expert in micron-precision optical metrology, delivering innovative measurement solutions for the qualification of the unique optical components which are the backbone of the Sun Simba™ technology.

Emma received her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston in 2009, and interned at the Fraunhoffer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics in Dortmund, Germany in 2007.
