Morgan Solar delivers SPOTlight building light management solution to BGIS, Government of Canada

Toronto, Ontario - Morgan Solar is pleased to announce another successful installation of a SPOTlight building light management solution. The interior automated sun shading system is powered by Morgan Solar’s proprietary adaptive control algorithm. This system was installed as part of the company’s ongoing cooperation with BGIS on their sustainability initiatives at the Government of Canada’s CD Howe Building in Ottawa. BGIS and Morgan Solar are co-founders of the Building Energy Innovation Council (BEIC).

The automated shading system improves building sustainability and occupant comfort by managing solar heat gain and glare. The control system uses an advanced analysis of sunlight on the building façade to optimize interior conditions and adjust the motorized shades. The system features solar sensors that enable the shades to adapt to weather conditions.  The system also learns over time to further improve its effectiveness. Occupants are always in control and can manually override the automated programs with local digital keypads.

This project is a prime example of Morgan Solar’s expertise in designing building light management solutions that balance occupant comfort, heat and glare through its SPOTlight platform. SPOTlight combines advanced optical modeling, cloud-based control systems, and rapid product development with established supply chain partners like Cisco Systems Inc., Somfy, Solarfective Legrand and Sunnex Blinds, and market leaders like BGIS, to commercialize innovations that are low capex, bankable and immediately scaleable. Morgan Solar refers to this approach as ‘T-Innovation’.
