News Release

Toronto, ON, August 18, 2026 — Morgan Solar is pleased to announce the deployment of its EnergyBlinds technology as part of a new pilot project with the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care (CCGHC) and Nova Scotia Health. The project will evaluate how intelligent window technologies can improve thermal comfort and support more resilient healthcare facilities during increasingly hot summer conditions in Nova Scotia.

Morgan Solar EnergyBlinds combine local renewable energy generation with intelligent thermal management, helping reduce carbon emissions, improve occupant comfort, and enhance overall building performance through automated sun-tracking and smart controls.

The technology aligns with the Low-Carbon Heat-Health Solutions in Care Settings project, a national initiative of the CCGHC that explores how indoor heat affects health and how care environments can be adapted to become more resilient to extreme heat events. Made possible through a financial contribution from Health Canada, the project identified excessive summer heat and aging electrical infrastructure as key challenges, highlighting the need for energy-efficient thermal management solutions.

While the primary objective of the pilot is to evaluate the system's impact on indoor thermal management and occupant comfort, the project will also evaluate the potential energy generation of EnergyBlinds under Nova Scotia's climate conditions, providing a broader understanding of the technology's contribution to overall building performance.

Healthcare environments must be designed to support the well-being of patients, families, and care teams. By improving thermal comfort and reducing the impacts of excessive heat, technologies like EnergyBlinds can play an important role in creating healthier and more resilient care spaces. - Sean Christie, Head, Neurosurgery Division, Nova Scotia Health.

William Gagnon, Director of Implementation at CCGHC, highlighted the technology's ability to address two critical challenges simultaneously: "The blinds cut solar heat gain right when the sun would otherwise be driving up cooling load, and they generate the most power at that exact same peak-demand moment. For a facility working within tight electrical infrastructure limits, that's a rare win-win; especially for our aging hospital infrastructure in Canada."

"This project is an opportunity to measure performance where it matters most," said Hugo Navarro, COO of Morgan Solar. "Hospitals face unique challenges balancing occupant comfort, energy consumption, and infrastructure constraints. By collecting detailed data over an extended period, we hope to better understand how intelligent window technologies like EnergyBlinds can contribute to healthier and more resilient buildings."

The seven-month pilot began following the successful installation completed on June 22, 2026. At the conclusion of the project, the partners will publish a report summarizing the findings and evaluating the potential for broader deployment of Morgan Solar EnergyBlinds as a low-carbon heat mitigation solution across healthcare facilities and commercial buildings.
