About the Position

The successful candidate is someone interested in and familiar with new product introduction and ramp up. The scope spans supporting product development teams on low volume production leading into outsourcing and high volume production, as well as assisting with inventory management. The candidate will be someone driven by both the efficient operation of a production system but also the continuous improvement of production processes. The Quality Engineer role interacts with the sales, applications, testing & validation, and product design teams. They would be responsible for line management, build pareto, organizing production capacity and spaces, enable partial outsourcing of products at CMs, defining company production policies, and support inventory tracking. The candidate should also maintain Morgan Solar’s good standing as a production facility with CSA.

Duties

● Supervise a small team of technicians in production of PV and IoT hardware products in a safe and efficient manner, from component parts all the way to final QC and packaging.

● Manage and improve production processes and systems.

● Incoming QC of materials and sub-assemblies.

● Ensure adherence to relevant CSA, IQ, OQ, PQ and ISO standards.

● Liaising with other engineers to develop plans that improve production times, costs, and labor required.

● Diagnosing problems in the production line and providing recommendations.

● Drawing up production schedules and contributing to budgets for projects.

● Assist with CM selection & onboarding, quality assurance / quality control.

● Work with sales, applications, and product development teams on demand planning, consigned part

coordination, inventory management, and packaging & delivery.

● Maintain production and inventory records, including build summaries and product traceability.

● Maintain the quality of products to our internal and customer’s standards.

● Eventually grow into providing DFM guidance to the design teams.

● Become a subject matter expert for processes and assist in completing builds on time.

Required Skills and Attributes

● Ability to read or understand basic electronics schematics and mechanical drawings.

● Can work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.

● RCA of production issues.

● Ability to write Work Instructions (SOPs).

● Ability to run process controls and quality assurance.

○ Familiarity with ISO-9001 quality management and production best practices like six sigma and

kaizen.

○ Continuous improvement of processes.

● Ability to directly manage technicians and operators.

● Knowledge of electrical safety and WHMIS.

● Knowledge of inventory management and logistics.

● Excellent organizational and communication skills.

● Skilled with Microsoft and Google Productivity Suites (Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets).

● Ability to work well both independently and in collaboration with the team.

● Ability to sit, climb & crouch as well as lift, move products and materials, operate tools and equipment, and perform manual labour as needed.

Good to Have

● Forklift license

● Familiarity with project management principles and tools

● Familiarity with scripts / macros / VBA / C# / python
